Reflective Collection
Having always lived near water, we are fascinated with its likeness to a broad, flowing canvas. Watching waters flow and the images change that are reflected on them, we contemplate how life moves in a similar way. For us, water is a metaphor for life in its fluidity and its elusive, dynamic nature. Water, like life, has currents that ebb and flow, creating an ever-changing tapestry that resonates with and gives life. The images reflected on the water are in continual transition, similar to the life that surrounds it. Being near water allows one to contemplate and reflect on life, while it also reflects the life around it.
Inspired by Abstract Expressionist and Impressionist paintings, we have aspired to fuse the elements of painting with photography, creating images that challenge the viewer to ask whether he or she is looking at a painting or a photograph, while reflecting on the mediums and the elusiveness of life’s moments. Like the origin of the word “photography” based on the Greek words phos ("light"), and graphis ("paintbrush”), the images we create incorporate that essence of photography using the camera to paint with light. Each of our images capture light reflected on water, creating textured images that resonate colour, shape and movement. What we hope is that our photography evokes an appreciation for grandiosity of nature, the elusive, vibrant and ever-changing play of light on water and the dynamic of life itself.
